Medical Coding II


Description
This course is a continuation of Medical Coding I and is a study of the purpose and use of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification, ICD-10-CM, and International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Procedure Classification System, ICD-10-PCS) classification system. Topics include coding conventions, coding principles, and CMS official coding guidelines (inpatient and outpatient). Students will be required to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS) codes to diagnosis/procedure statements, case abstracts, and patient records. Use of the ICD-10-CM/PCS) coding manual and a computerized encoder is incorporated; inpatient, outpatient, and physician office reimbursement systems are discussed.
